Donna Grantis

#culturevspolicy is a climate project conceptualized by musician Donna Grantis at 418 ppm.

“My vision is to create music inspired by — and featuring — conversations with climate scientists, activists, Indigenous leaders, policymakers, researchers and sociologists about Earth’s systems and how people relate to the climate emergency. I will explore the connection between culture and policy, in relation to human impacts on our planet, and present ideas as musical works.” — Donna Grantis

Donna Grantis is a Canadian artist, guitarist, composer and producer. From 2012 to 2016 Grantis performed and recorded with Prince as a member of his funk-rock trio 3RDEYEGIRL, and supergroup New Power Generation. She was named one of the greatest female guitarists of all time by Guitar Player Magazine, “Trading blazing solos with the late Purple One on a nightly basis, she proved her mettle, and earned a place in guitar history.” Grantis composed the title track to Prince & 3RDEYEGIRL’s album PLECTRUMELECTRUM, which reached #1 on the Billboard Rock Chart. As a bandleader, Grantis fronted a 5-piece electric jazz quintet and released her debut album, DIAMONDS & DYNAMITE, described by the Star Tribune as “New millennium jazz-rock fusion, sorta like Jeff Beck meets a post-modern Mahavishnu Orchestra.” On two of the album’s tracks, Grantis collaborated with Hall of Fame Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready.

In October 2021, Grantis completed the Climate Reality Leadership Corps Virtual Global Training led by former Vice President Al Gore. Her newest creative project, #culturevspolicy, fuses the emotive power of music with thought-provoking dialogue highlighting narratives that are at once existential and empowering. Through this process, she aims to spark meaningful climate conversations.
