The River Clyde Pageant envisions a world where sustained encounters between community, art and ecology spark transformation and wonder. Where creative, joyful disruptions arise through attention to people and place; where strong communities lead with generosity and are rooted in the land. Here, people discover their unlimited potential through collaborative creativity, and inclusive communities are learning and evolving our collective histories.
We engage the artistry and imagination within the communities of the River Clyde by creating outdoor performances and programming that illuminate the land and its people. Our main activity is an annual, outdoor summer theatre production uniting professional artists and local creators across cultures, generations and creative practices. We also present workshops and events throughout the year to foster connection among community members, whether through conversation, artmaking, or preparing and sharing food.
We aim to be accountable to our diverse community of participants who live, work and create in the rural and urban localities near the River Clyde; to the L’nu of Mi’kma’ki, whose lead we follow in stewarding the land for future generations; and to River Clyde itself, recognizing the vast networks of creatures and living things that depend upon a healthy, thriving watershed and bioregion.
The River Clyde Pageant was established in 2015 by theatre artists Ker Wells and Megan Stewart. It is an incorporated charitable non-profit under the legal name The Cooking Fire Theatre Festival Inc.
