Sounding Modernity is the 4th season of the https://www.conscient.ca/ podcast, which explores art and the ecological crisis hosted and produced by Claude Schryer. Sounding Modernity will be 53, 5-minute sound art creations, published once per week, from January 1 to December 31, 2023, in English and in French and will involve invitations for listeners to participate. This season will explore what modernity (defined this context is defined as the combination of extractive capitalism, overconsumption, systemic racism, white supremacy, separability, etc) sounds like, how it affects us and how to ‘create the conditions for other possible worlds to emerge in the wake of what is dying’ as suggested in ‘Preparing for the end of the world as we know it’ article by the Gesturing Towards Decolonial Futures collective. The artistic language of ‘Sounding Modernity’ is a mix of slowly paced narration, long silences interweaved with layered field recordings and/or soundscape compositions.
