Born in Tkaronto (Toronto) to Chilean political refugees, Ayelen’s first language was dance which has matured through radical explorations of movement as powerful tools for change and transformation. A multifaceted dancer, filmmaker, activist and community weaver, her work in the world is to lead from the heart and articulate connection.
currently the artist in residence for the Yukon chapter of Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS).Nicole lives in Whitehorse on the traditional territory of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and Ta’an Kwäch’än Council. She has shown work across Canada, the US and in Norway.
Currently designing a project of radio drama miniseries with a companion interactive web platform. Focusing on solarpunk narratives, this broadcast/podcast’s episodes are set 15 years ahead in a radically refashioning Canadian urban-scape. Anglophone, Francophone, Allophone, and Indigenous community members liaison across Montreal and Ottawa to continue adapting with climate-resilient housing, localization of food, energy, and healthcare resource generation and recycling operations, and community governance practices to address fair distribution and trade agreements. This “speculative realism” story crafting includes humour, sober and optimistic projections of near-future potentials to build toward. Covering a year of neighbours extending a network of residential/industrial eco-complexes, the project aims for collaborative episode building with scriptwriters and actors. To represent realistic urban futures, a majority of cast and crew will also be disabled and/or racialized.
Audrey Lane Cockett is a filmmaker, artistic director, spoken word poet, ecologist, and outdoor educator based in Treaty 7 Land. Their work is rooted in wild and they are a passionate advocate for mental health awareness, love, and intersectional care for community and the natural world.
They believe in art as an avenue for learning, healing, connecting and transforming.
Deeply preoccupied by and committed to ecological health and justice, I am a settler living and working in art and movement practice. With the utmost respect and gratitude, and deep sadness for what has come before and continues today, honouring the land, water, sky and animals of the unceded ancestral homeland of the Beothuk, Mi’kmaq, Innu, and Inuit territories on this, Ktaqmkuk (Newfoundland, and Labrador).
Sally Morgan (she/her) lives in K’jipuktuk/Halifax. She is a mother, an improviser, an interdisciplinary dance/performance artist, a movement and environmental educator. She has been a part of the Canadian dance community for 25 years, studying nationally/internationally in contemporary and postmodern dance, improvisation/contact improvisation, and somatic practices. Her work has been presented across Canada, in Europe and the USA.
Urbanvessel creates new performance works through interdisciplinary collaboration. Rooted in music and sound, the power of the human voice is at the heart of our creative process. Led by Artistic Director Juliet Palmer and drawing upon the diverse talents of our collaborators, Urbanvessel fuses sound, music, text, imagery and movement. Urbanvessel shares knowledge through our educational programmes and community outreach activities.
Marie LeBlanc is a self-taught multidisciplinary artist. Through photography, multimedia projection, short film, performance and wordsmithing she explores themes related to landscape, isolation, beauty, health and nature. Capturing faces, shapes, shadows and reflections with digital and on-camera effects, often superimposing her own reflection, she seeks to embrace the present moment and the ethereal world around her.
Aeris Körper is a professional dance company based in Hamilton. We bring people into their bodies through movement, awareness of sensations and connection to self and others with the aim of fostering resilience, understanding and empathy. This allows us to lean into blocks of self-expression which ultimately leads to self empowerment, community building and social change.
Alex Masse, AKA Fairything, is a writer, musician, and student residing in what is colonially known as Surrey, BC. The arts are a longtime love of theirs, and they’ve recently begun intertwining it with their climate activism. They’re an alumnus of multiple programs from The Only Animal Theatre, including Art of Resistance and Greenhouse, as well as participating in other programs, such as Vines Art Festival’s Emerging Creatives. They’ve designed posters for protests, sculpted soundscapes for earthy installations, written many a poem about complicated relationships had with the land, and over their life pressed more flowers than they can count.
The Climate Art Web (CAW-WAC) is a grassroots network that brings together climate artists living in northern Turtle Island (Canada).
