Lin Snelling

Lin Snelling’s performance, writing and teaching is based in the qualities improvisation can offer as it applies to dance, theatre, visual art and somatic practice. She toured the world extensively as a performer with Carbone 14 and worked with many improvisation ensembles. As Professor at the University of Alberta she is presently teaching dance, experiential anatomy and composition and is Coordinator of the MFA in Theatre Practice program. She received a McCalla Professorship in 2019 from the University of Alberta for a new collective creation, A Sounding Line. Her recent dance collaborations are Entrances with David Gagnon Walker and Tori Morrison, eva as part of StageLab, The Liminal with Brian Webb, anything goes: GWG Dance in 17 parts with Gerry Morita, and Versing with musician/composers Michael Reinhart, Jeremi Roy, David Ryshpan and lighting designer Yan Lee Chan. She works with Montreal choreographer Tedi Tafel and was part of Crying in Public, Life World, Calendar and Everyday. Her collaboration Performing Book with visual artist Shelagh Keeley happened at the Edmonton Art Gallery, MoMA, the Power Plant/Toronto, and the VAG/Vancouver. Will Weigler

I am a theatre director, playwright, producer, and professional storyteller, now living and working on the traditional territories of the Coast Salish Peoples. I have written five books on different approaches to co-creating theatre with people in communities about the issues that matter to them. In the past two years I have been working with the International Centre of Art for Social Change as a mentor for several emerging artists creating community-based performance work around issues of climate change activism and sustainability. I have borrowed a personal credo from Philip Pullman who writes: “Responsibility and delight can co-exist.”

Jasper Community Habitat for the Arts

The Jasper Community Habitat for the Arts opened its doors on July 1st 2016.

This is Jaspers’ first dedicated community space for exploring the arts, any of its disciplines, and for all ages. A place to share expertise, experience something new or be entertained.

The space was designed, from its inception, to be one that could accommodate the arts and artists who would be using the spaces. When we were invited to sit with the architects in 2011 we had no real idea of the light, the wood, the concrete, and how they would work together in making something so truly unique.

Nicole Schafenacker

currently the artist in residence for the Yukon chapter of Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS).Nicole lives in Whitehorse on the traditional territory of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and Ta’an Kwäch’än Council. She has shown work across Canada, the US and in Norway.

The River Clyde Pageant

The River Clyde Pageant envisions a world where sustained encounters between community, art and ecology spark transformation and wonder. Where creative, joyful disruptions arise through attention to people and place; where strong communities lead with generosity and are rooted in the land. Here, people discover their unlimited potential through collaborative creativity, and inclusive communities are learning and evolving our collective histories.

Currently designing a project of radio drama miniseries with a companion interactive web platform. Focusing on solarpunk narratives, this broadcast/podcast’s episodes are set 15 years ahead in a radically refashioning Canadian urban-scape. Anglophone, Francophone, Allophone, and Indigenous community members liaison across Montreal and Ottawa to continue adapting with climate-resilient housing, localization of food, energy, and healthcare resource generation and recycling operations, and community governance practices to address fair distribution and trade agreements. This “speculative realism” story crafting includes humour, sober and optimistic projections of near-future potentials to build toward. Covering a year of neighbours extending a network of residential/industrial eco-complexes, the project aims for collaborative episode building with scriptwriters and actors. To represent realistic urban futures, a majority of cast and crew will also be disabled and/or racialized.

Brian Postalian

Artistic Director of Re:Current Theatre, which is dedicated to creating work that reimagines gathering. As of Spring 2022, he is currently working on ‘Brian and Jackie’s 100 Neoliberal Climate Change Crusade Plays to Conquer the Malaise of Your Fears to Do Anything in the Age of Climate Change.’ It is a satirical performance about truth, fear, and absurdity in the age of climate change. His touring work ‘New Societies’ is an interactive theatrical experience to create your ideal society in a mega-game of collaboration, competition, and potential.

Juliet Palmer

Juliet Palmer’s music has come to life under a highway off-ramp, in a swimming pool, in the plastic flotsam of a remote beach and in concert halls across North America, Europe and Oceania. Originally from Aotearoa New Zealand, Juliet makes her home in Toronto where she is artistic director of Urbanvessel, a platform for interdisciplinary collaboration.

Urbanvessel creates new performance works through interdisciplinary collaboration. Rooted in music and sound, the power of the human voice is at the heart of our creative process. Led by Artistic Director Juliet Palmer and drawing upon the diverse talents of our collaborators, Urbanvessel fuses sound, music, text, imagery and movement. Urbanvessel shares knowledge through our educational programmes and community outreach activities.
